Repair to Return

(Two Rooms Project)

We are on a mission to help as many flood affected people as possible get back into safe, secure and warm homes

  • Repair to Return Project

The Repair to Return Project is a volunteer-powered initiative run by Resilient Lismore.

Formerly known as the Two Rooms Project, it is a volunteer-powered initiative we began after seeing hundreds of people in the Northern Rivers living without walls in the aftermath of the catastrophic 2022 flood. With the aim to get as many people as possible back living in safe and secure housing, we sent out teams of volunteers to build walls in two rooms of local residents’ houses.

To date we have restored more than 100 homes to safe, secure, warm and liveable conditions, and the project has expanded beyond ‘two rooms’ to include other vital repairs such as kitchens and bathrooms.

Our aim is to prioritise people most in need. In some cases we might be able to donate materials, or we can help people install materials they already have.

Our Two Rooms & a Bathroom project in conjunction with the Reece Foundation restored essential plumbing to more than 70 households.

It’s important to note that these are not renovations or improvements – they are repairs to get as many people as we can back with functional bathrooms and kitchens as soon as possible.

If any of this sounds like you, come into the Hub and register or request help here.

  • Be warm, safe and secure

“Having walls again is going to make such a big difference. As a parent, being able to provide a warm, safe space is a massive deal.”

    — Courtney, Repair to Return recipient

  • Build skills. Build community

We are putting together teams of volunteers to build walls in the homes of people in real need. We welcome anyone to join - from beginners to experienced tradies. It’s a great opportunity to grow your skills and connect with your community in a meaningful way.

  • Help fund the project

We are asking for financial contributions to cover some of the cost of building materials and volunteer coordination.
Every donation increases our ability to help more people.
