We love volunteers!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Resilient Lismore.

Volunteers are the backbone of any organisation like ours, which focuses on recovery by community, for community.

The flood that impacted the Northern Rivers in late February 2022 was one of the most significant natural disasters ever seen in Australia. In the aftermath of such an event, communities face immense challenges in recovering and rebuilding.

Working Holiday Visa holders can complete their 88 days of work with us in order to extend their visas. See what Shannon and Aagje have to say about their experiences with us:

We welcome large groups too, and have shared some great experiences with some generous and hard-working crews. Click below to see what a couple of large groups have to say about their time with us.

The selfless dedication and tireless efforts of volunteers play a pivotal role in recovery, helping individuals and communities heal and rebuild. The response of the Northern Rivers community continues to be extraordinary and is absolutely critical. Without these special people donating their time and skills, our little organisation could not keep doing the important work we do.

Since the February 2022 flood, Resilient Lismore volunteers have contributed:

·        nearly $4 million worth of volunteer aid

·        14,000 volunteer deployments

·        over 85,000 volunteer hours

·        nearly 4000 clean-up and rebuild jobs

·      more than 2000 door-to-door wellbeing check-ins

About our Volunteers

Resilient Lismore welcomes volunteers who share our values of inclusivity, respect, trust, and fairness.

Volunteers contribute to the work of Resilient Lismore in many ways, including but certainly not limited to recovery, clean-up and rebuild jobs; the Two Rooms building project; outreach and door knocking; social media moderation; working on the front desk at the Hub and helping to run our community tool library. Volunteers play a central role in everything we do to support our community’s flood recovery.

We value the experiences and knowledge of volunteers, and encourage and welcome feedback, ideas or concerns.

Resilient Lismore accepts Volunteering Australia’s definition of Volunteering, Principles of Volunteering and Volunteer Rights.

Emotional Support and Rebuilding Lives

Recovering from a disaster involves more than just physical reconstruction; it requires healing emotional scars as well. Volunteers bring empathy, compassion, and a listening ear to survivors who have endured trauma and loss. They offer emotional support, lending a sympathetic ear and providing reassurance that they are not alone. By helping individuals cope with their grief and rebuild their lives, volunteers play a crucial role in restoring the resilience and spirit of our community.

Community Resilience and Long-Term Recovery

The impact of a disaster lingers long after the initial response efforts. Volunteers are catalysts for long-term recovery through their involvement in community rebuilding projects. Our Two Rooms and Repair to Return programs are shining examples of this, using the power of volunteers to help community members return to safe and secure accommodation. In turn, our volunteers learn valuable skills that will make our community more resilient in the future.

Through their work, volunteers inspire unity and collaboration, fostering a sense of resilience within the community and empowering individuals to take ownership of their recovery.

Volunteers are the unsung heroes who embody the true spirit of compassion and humanity in the face of adversity. Their dedication and selflessness remind us that together we can overcome the most challenging of circumstances and emerge stronger than before.
