Young people! Join Youth Roundtable and have your say!

The Office of the Advocate for Children and Young People’s (ACYP) Recovery Youth Support Service team has been working throughout the Northern Rivers region since February 2023 speaking with children and young people impacted by the 2022 flooding event.

They have spoken with over 460 young people across the region over the past six months who have shared their experiences, insights and ideas regarding natural disaster recovery, preparedness and what is needed to improve the wellbeing of children and young people in recovery.

As a result of children and young people sharing their aspirations and ideas for change, the ACYP will be co-hosting a youth-led roundtable discussion with the Honourable Minister for Youth Rose Jackson in the Northern Rivers on Friday 17 November 2023.

The focus of this event will be to bring together young people living across the Northern Rivers with key Government representatives and decision makers to share their ideas on flood recovery, preparedness planning and their hopes for the future.

The event will be held on Friday 17 November, from 4pm-7pm, at the Lennox Cultural Centre. Free dinner and giveaways will be provided.

Young people aged 15yrs+ to 24yrs - far and wide across the Northern Rivers region are invited to collaborate with you on this event! If you have young people in your community or engaged with your organisation – both individually and in groups – who would like to be involved in this exciting event please get in touch with Elle (0459 860 218) or Laura (0474 535 436) or register via the link below:

If your service is supporting a group of young people to attend, you are also welcome to RSVP directly to: youthsupportservices@acyp.nsw.gov.au and they will be in contact with you.

The ACYP is looking for RSVPs from any interested young people by 27 October 2023. They are making plans to have young people aged under 15 years represented at the event, though they won’t be there in person, so please also get in touch if you have any young people aged under 15 interested in participating.

Please share this information with your young people, colleagues and networks, and please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Elle or Laura for any further information or to have them come out to your service to speak further about the roundtable event.
